I have been asked to be in charge of decorations for a gala event for a local charity. The event is in the Spring, and we are considering using a Mardi Gras theme. I am in the process of determining the availability of Mardi Gras decorations for the event. The event is always at the same facility, which houses about two hundred people comfortably for a dinner and concert. There is also an outdoor reception prior to the dinner, with appetizers and drinks. Thus the Mardi Gras decorations have to be incorporated in to both the outdoor reception and indoor event. There are additional difficulties, in that the facility is a protected historical building, and no decorations can be adhered to the walls or railings with any tape, nails, tacks or adhesive of any kind.
It takes some thoughtful preparation. We have overcome this in the past, and I'm sure we can figure things out again. A large eye-catching display is essential at the doorway to the hall, as it marks the entrance from the reception to the dinner and concert. There is also a walkway from check-in to the reception that needs to be clearly marked to make sure guests move in the right direction. Finally, the stage must be prepared in such a way as to allow the musicians sufficient room to move, while highlighting the area. In all, the decor must be spectacular! The Mardi Gras theme should leave plenty of room for imagination.
